Democracy in Action or Pumping Margins
I have been watching a lot of coverage of the primary election coverage and I cannot help be a little cynical about this whole process. Are the primaries a bigger deal this election year because of the tight races or has the media hype helped? Why would the media hype a primary you ask? They know what their share numbers are for the general election and what if they could recreate that atmosphere for these big primary days? The ad dollars are almost endless. Especially for the television news stations. I am very surprised watching the super Tuesday coverage that NBC will only have an hour special after their prime time programming and that CBS is waiting till 9pm to air their program. You would think without new programming that election coverage would bump their numbers, but maybe they are giving in to CNN and FOX News?

They've definitely been hyping this primary. I think another reason for the increased attention this time around is that there are more interesting characters. There's a black man and a woman in the race! So it's a little easier to sell to the public.
